Spring Favorites Podcast: Seasonal Activities and Fun

Spring Favorites Podcast

There is something so inspiring about spring.

Flowers bloom, animals come out of hibernation and students prepare for the semester’s end.

Spring is an ideal time for a day date– whether with a friend, special someone or alone; this is the season to go on a picnic and get outside; it’s the perfect time to get organized and set goals.

Spring is a time of fresh starts, time outside and sweet moments with others.

In the “Spring Favorites” podcast, Emma Harding and Kailey Schmidt, who are both seniors majoring in communications studies at Missouri Baptist University, discuss some of their spring favorites and their ideas to romanticize this beautiful season.

Ideal Spring Date

Harding’s ideal spring date in St. Louis involves going to Forest Park; of course, the only thing that could make a day like that better is getting a delicious drink at a coffee shop.

At Forest Park, the options are endless. Harding especially loves the idea of going to the art museum, having a picnic in the park or riding in one of the paddle boats.

Schmidt’s ideal date in springtime would start with going to lunch and then going on a walk and playing pickleball at Fenton Park.

Harding agrees with Schmidt’s notion of playing pickleball during the spring.

“Pickleball is like the perfect spring activity,” said Harding, in the “Spring Favorites” podcast.

Spring is a great time to get a delicious lunch, whether going on a date or grabbing yourself some food to eat on a lunch break.

Russell’s cafe in Fenton, Missouri, is one of Schmidt’s favorite local restaurants; she notes that their salads, especially those topped with fruit, are a great springtime meal.

Springtime Treats

Harding’s favorite spring treat is any kind of fun drink, especially a strawberry matcha.

She also loves fruity, gluten-free baked goods.

Schmidt and Harding agree that fruit tastes best in spring and early summer.

Harding has a soft spot for her mom’s raspberry compote dessert; she also loves the cobbler recipes from her boyfriend’s mom.

She especially enjoys baking either of these in the springtime.

Lemon-flavored and coconut-flavored desserts are a favorite for Schmidt as the cold winter air leaves and warmer spring weather surfaces.

Best Picnic Locations and Parks in St. Louis

Spring weather is ideal for going on a picnic, if it isn’t storming. A sunny day can be a great opportunity to have a picnic and feel grounded in nature, while also connecting face-to-face with others.

Better yet, phones can be shut off so that everyone is more present.

Harding’s location of choice for a picnic is St. Louis’ Art Hill.

“You just can’t get better than having a picnic on Art Hill,” said Harding.

Spring Activities

Harding suggests going to The Muny this time of year, as the weather is perfect for an outdoor show.

Schmidt suggests going to the Botanical Gardens, which Harding points out recently underwent renovations.

Schmidt also loves going to the zoo or hiking at Castlewood Park to get a scenic workout.

Harding loves hiking in Southern Missouri, where one can see breathtaking views of Missouri’s bluffs.

Get outside this spring, do something fun with a loved one, and most of all: be grateful for this special, fun season. Happy spring!
