June Marks Scleroderma Awareness Month
Scleroderma is a rare autoimmune disease that hardens and tightens skin and connective tissue, affecting 0.1% of people in the United States, or just one out of every 1,000 people. There is no known cure for the disease, and while many patients live full lives with scleroderma, it can be fatal. Ashley White is an MBU regional learning student in Jefferson County, Missouri, working toward a degree in middle school education in science, and in addition to her schoolwork, she must deal with the complications of being one of the few afflicted by scleroderma. Here is her story.
A Lost Season
Without warning, a 2020 spring sports season for MBU college athletes became a lost season because of the rampant virus, COVID-19. As they are still reeling from the news, MBU student-athletes have tried to pick up the pieces and look forward to the future.
COVID-19 Affects Eligibility for Athletes
Coronavirus has suspended life as we know it, and student-athletes’ last remaining games of the 2020 spring season have been taken away. As they mourn losing their opportunity to play, the NAIA has stepped up in a big way, granting all students who lost their season extra eligibility.
Service Day Encourages Servant Hearts at MBU
MBU’s Service Day is dedicated to bringing together faculty, staff and students to demonstrate the grace and mercy of Christ by serving others. The MBU community had the opportunity to package meals for Meals for a Million to feed families in need throughout Missouri, stuff bears for hospitalized children with Sharing Smiles and donate their lightly used shoes to the less fortunate in Haiti.
What Is Your Favorite Movie?
The 2020 Oscars air this Sunday, Feb. 9, and blockbuster films from 2019 like “Joker,” “1917” and “The Irishman” are all heavily favored for the coveted categories of best picture, best cinematography and best adapted screenplay. In preparation for the Academy Awards, MBU journalism students went into the MBU community to discover the all-time favorite movies of students, faculty and staff.
Service Day Brings Out the Best of MBU Students, Faculty
MBU’s Service Day encourages giving back to others and helping those who are less fortunate or need to be touched with the love of Christ. The MBU community had the opportunity to spread joy to children in hospitals with Sharing Smiles and express their appreciation for those who served in the military with Operation Gratitude, all while having fellowship with each other.
